Calvary Baptist Church was established in 1977 under the leadership of Pastor Tom Lancaster. The church met for a few years in a gymnasium near Winchester and Perkins and then bought property, built a building, and moved to its present location on Kirby Parkway in 1980. The church grew to a high average attendance near 400. The new Auditorium, built on the same property, was dedicated in 2000.

Calvary Baptist is an Independent, Fundamental Baptist Church. We seek to reach the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ through personal soulwinning and world missions. For decades we have run busses all over the Memphis region and even into Mississippi bringing folks to church that needed transportation. We are an active, friendly, and exciting church. We seek to minster to and strengthen the entire family. At Calvary Baptist, we are focused on your family! The teaching and preaching is practical, powerful, and passionate. The messages are Bible-based, down-to-earth, and straight forward. We believe and use only the King James Bible and come to church to hear what God has to say to us through His Word. Our music is conservative, Christ-honoring, soul-stirring, and heart-warming. We believe in separation from the world and unto Christ. We believe Christianity is not something we put on for a Sunday service; it is a way of life.  Most of all, we believe in loving God and loving others.  Our hope and prayer is that everyone who enters the door of Calvary will feel the love God through the members of Calvary.

One thing that makes us somewhat unique is our outreach and interest in every person, of every race, every background, and every walk of life. There is no prejudice here – Everyone’s Welcome at Calvary! We have a wonderful multi-racial blend of people who join together each week as part of a family – the family of God! We have members that are scientists, teachers, nurses, business owners, accountants, secretaries, factory workers, airline employees, security guards, housewives, restaurant workers, barbers, salesmen, truck drivers, grocers, military personnel, university students, and people from every walk of life. We have classes and activities for babies, primaries, juniors, teenagers, singles, couples, adults, and senior citizens. Our people come from all over Memphis, Bartlett, Barton, Byhalia, Collierville, Cordova, Germantown, Hernando, Horn Lake, Mt. Pleasant, Olive Branch, Southaven, and Victoria. Some live across the street from the church and some travel over a half hour to come to church. What we are trying to say is…Calvary Baptist Church has something for everyone and everyone is welcome at Calvary!
